There is something powerful about singing.  We are creatures that need to and love to be around music and participate in it at some level.  Singing has the power to unite us, to comfort us and to combat demon oppression.  Our praise and worship to God is not based on our feelings, emotions or our circumstances, we praise and we sing in response to what God is doing and to who He is. It's time for us as the body of Christ to grow in this, that we might be known as a church that expresses its love to the Lord boastfully and loudly in song.

Processing Pain | Passages | Josh Misener

Hannah is an incredible woman and we’re going to walk through her story in 1 Samuel 1. She experiences heartache and suffering yet gives us a means to process such pain.  We, especially in the western world, can process our pain in unhealthy ways by things like suppressing, blaming, transference or even projecting on social media. Hannah processes her pain through prayer and also by having real conversations and as she processes her pain in this way, she finds herself in a place of great peace.

Roots Before Fruit | Passages | Jairus Beckett

In a plant’s life cycle, producing fruit is the last phase, while developing a root system comes first and is essential to producing fruit. How many times have we worked to change our eating habits or gone to the gym to get into better shape, but soon reverted back to our old ways? Or how many times have we worked to be more like Jesus in our workplace or in our home but found that we weren’t able to keep it up? Do we just need more willpower or discipline, or is the issue deeper? In Ephesians 3, the Apostle Paul challenges us to root ourselves in the love of God and let the fruit speak for itself. We cannot give what we don’t have, and the focus of followers of Jesus needs to be roots before fruit!

Pride can be defined as a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.   Pride is a pain. While we are often affected by it, we may not be aware of it or how it is showing up in our life. Why is that? Where is pride affecting your life? How do you address it? Pride is often the true reason why we get our feelings hurt, why we feel rejection, why we won’t admit our mistakes, why we want to be seen with certain people, and why we stay angry. But, there is immense grace and favor from God for those who bravely embrace that the way up, is down.
